235 Harry Willows was the last of the arcadian river dwellers on the Warren river which flows to the east and south of Pemberton before entering the Southern Ocean. He had been a stockman with the Duracks in their epic cattle drive from Queensland to the Kimberleys.

When you compare the climate of the Kimberley with that of the karri forest, old Harry was probably the first of the true "alternative lifestylers" to head for the tall timber country.

Today he is remembered by the name of an insignificant bush track, called "Willows Road."

252 In a letter from Lean O’LOUGHLIN (nee HAMDORF) to John EAMER on 08.10.2005, Lena gives anecdotal account of what she knew of the life of Johanne Eleonore GADE’s life, at the time of writing.

In her letter Lena relates that Johanne, her Great-Grandmother, was known in her household in Port Pirie, where Lena was born, literally as "Grannie Schirmer – Mrs Hamdorf”. Lena was only 8yrs old when her Great-Grandmother died in 1930, and from that time until 1945, when her father died, Lena was fortunate to hear her father speak often about his Grandmother, ‘Grannie Schirmer – Mrs Hamdorf”.

Lena was always perplexed as to why her Great-Grandmother was called ‘Grannie Schirmer – Mrs Hamdorf”. Her father later explained to her that ‘Grannie’ had gone off with a Johann SCHIRMER and her husband, Ernst Wilhelm HAMDORF then went abroad to Samoa, where he lived for 47 years.

Before separating, Johanne and Ernst had three children, the eldest and youngest dying before reaching 5yrs of age. The middle child was Lena’s Grandfather who was brought up by his grandparents (Hamdorf side) as ‘Grannie Schirmer – Mrs Hamdorf” made a new life with Johann SCHIRMER.

Lena tells the story that ‘Grannie Schirmer – Mrs Hamdorf” and Johann SCHIRMER produced a further nine ‘Schirmer children’ from a de facto relationship, none of which where registered with BDM Office of SA. Again from anecdotal stories, the couple actually raised a 10th child, Wilfred Sydney SCHIRMER, the child of their eldest and unmarried daughter, Pauline Amalia SCHIRMER. Apparently Wilfred (Wilf) was very close to Lena’s father, as they had been brought up as Uncle and Nephew, where the Uncle was the younger of the two, although the actual relationship was that of half-cousin.

Lena’s also remembers her father relating the story of how his Grand-father, the banished Ernst Wilhelm HAMDORF, returned from Samoa after nearly 50yrs to tack down his only surviving son, Lena’s father’s father, and just turned up one day at the doorstep. Nobody believed him at first until it was apparent he knew all about the times prior to him leaving for Samoa, 47 yrs previously.

A copy of Lena’s letter can be found under the files section of the GADE Clan web site

269 John Beckett was the husband of Mary SALMON born 1814 Shawbury. They married in 1837 Wolverhampton. Mary already had an illegitimate child, William SALMON born in 1831 Codsall. The father of this child was her cousin William SALMON born circa 1802. He was married.
Mary had an elder sister Elizabeth who also had an illegitimate daughter born 1831. The father of this child was Joseph SALMON, her cousin born circa 1804. Joseph was married.
To add to the intrigue, John Becketts first wife, who died, was the sister of the girl who married the elder William SALMON.

297 Louisa Bertha Lehmann died of Asthenia (debility) and Typhoid Fever. Her husband at Nectar Brook, signed as informant.

[Asthenia: Weakness. Lack of energy and strength. Loss of strength. The word asthenia is not much used in medicine today, although it is a prominent part of myasthenia,a loss of muscle strength. The condition is commonly seen in patients suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders or chronic disorders of the heart, lungs or kidneys. Differentiating between asthenia and true muscular weakness is often difficult, and in time asthenia in chronic disorders is seen to progress into a primary weakness.]
