  • Notes
    • When Frances married James the Witnesses to the Marriage were John DAVIS x and Ann EAMOUR x [sister of James]. Frances signed the Register [Copy On File] with a beautiful flowing signature using the then "f" i.e. Francefs.CENSUS: 30 March 1851 [HO107/1693 Folio 426 Page 14] [Sch.37] Living Barracks, Whistley, Berkshire. Frances EAMER / Head / Widow aged 27 years Labourer born Hurst, Berks. Jane EAMER daughter aged 4 years born Hurst, Berks and Jonathan NORRIS Father a Widower aged 60 years born Hurst, Berks.NOTE: The family noted on the Census previous to Frances' entry are the daughters of Henry NASH and his wife Eliza. They are Emma [16], Ellen [14], Jane [11] and Eliza [9], entered as "Labourers daughters" living at Little Hill Cottages. Henry was the "partner" in James EAMOUR's crime and they were Transported together to the Swan Colony.CENSUS: 7 April 1861 [RG9/ 752 Folio 95 Page 19] [Sch.101] Living Barracks, Hurst, Berkshire. Frances EAMER / Head / Widow aged 30 years Ag. Labourer born Hurst, Berks. Jonathan NORRIS Boarder [actually Frances' Father] Widower aged 65 years, Ag. Labourer born Hurst, Berks. George H.C.EAMER Son aged 5 years born Hurst, Berks and Sarah Ann WHITE Visitor aged 17 years Servant born Acorn Street, Camberwell.NOTE: Sarah could have been a neice of Frances' husband James as his sister Mary Ann married Charles WHITE on 28 October 1837. George was Base Born son of Frances, his Father was a married man William CRESSWELL. Jane not with her mother, now aged 14 years [Born 17 June 1846] - where was she. [15.3.2006: See under Jane - found on "Ancestry" Website under Jane EMER living St. Marylebone, Middx as a Servant - Age 19!].CENSUS: 2 April 1871 [RG10/ 1288 Folio 105 Page 22] [Sch.130] Living at Pink Cottages, Whistley, Hurst, Berkshire. Frances HEIMER / Head / Widow aged 42 years born Hurst, Berks and daughter Ellen HEIMER aged 9 years born Hurst, Berks. Living next door, still Pink Cottages was William EDWARDS Head / Unmarried aged 29 years Labourer Born Basingstoke, Hants. William is shown at the top of the next page, Page 23. I would imagine that this was very unusual in this period of time for a single person to be occupying a property on his own, single persons were generally "at home" or in accommodation with a family or situated on a Farm. There were only five Pink Cottages, two of the others were occupied by families and one was unoccupied. The next place censured on Page 23 was Dunt Lane where on the 1861 Census William was working on a Farm, the Head was a Gabriel S. CLARKE - was William still working for him!NOTE: No occupation put down for Frances - was William supplying the Bread & Butter! James EAMOUR/EAMER died 16 May 1868 in Adelaide Hospital, Australia - obviously Frances did not know what was going on on the other side of the world - if she had, she may well have married William, she was indeed a Widow in 1871. James was Semi-literate so doubt if James ever wrote to Frances and doubt if Frances ever knew what happened to James once he had left England - probably aware he would never be able to return to England Frances found another partner in William after her affair with married man William CRESSWELL. Cannot find Jane EAMER on this Census, she was probably working and living somewhere in London where she married. [15.3.2006: Se under Jane - found on "Ancestry" Website under Jane EAVERS Aged 24, a Servant living Paddington, London].CENSUS: 3 April 1881 [RG11/1309 Folios 57 & 58 Page 44 & 45] [Sch.235] William & Frances living 78, Blenheim Road, Reading, Berkshire which is between London Road and Erleigh Road. Living in Household of Frederick DOUGLAS a Lithographic Printer, his wife and their six children, the youngest being only 5 months old. William is noted as Head / Married / aged 41 years a Gardeners Labourer and Frances as Wife / Married / aged 55 years. Frances' daughter Jane had in 1872 married Henry GLENISTER at St. Marys Church, Ealing, Middlesex.NOTE: Frances was probably looking after the children of this household. On this Census William added two years and Frances took two years off. Their daughter Ellen was now also living in Reading as a Servant and later that year married Francis PROUT. Frances' son George, married, was living in Egham, Surrey with his wife and two children.CENSUS: 5 April 1891 [RG12/ 995 Folio Page ?] [Sch.174] 36, Pell Street, Reading, Berkshire. Frances living in the household of her daughter Ellen and her husband Francis PROUT and their five children. Frances is entered as Frances PROUT but put down as Mother-in-Law / Widow aged 67 years.NOTE: Wonder why Frances was put down as PROUT when it states she was Mother-in-Law to Head Francis PROUT! ones imagination can run riot here knowing the circumstances. Where and what happened to William EDWARDS - I doubt if we shall ever find out - so many with the common name of William EDWARDS - Death Certificates obtained and researching the G.R.O. Indexes have revealed nothing and brought researching William to a halt. Pleased to see that Frances, even though for only a while perhaps, was in Ellen's household, it proves she cared for her mother even though when Ellen's sixth child came along Frances had to go into the Workhouse where she eventually died.
SEE under William EDWARDS re 1891 Census - has he been found. Researching N.A. Kew 24.11.2005.
Frances EAMER was a Witness along with George HIGGS to the Marriage of Jonas NORTH & Mary Freeman NICHOLLS on the 12th October 1850. [Info Hurst CD]. George HIGGS was a Witness to the Marriage of Ann EAMOUR, probably a family friend. [1]
