  • Notes
    • Samuel Inglis born in Dunns Scotland was the first child of Samuel Inglis and Mary Robertson. He left Scotland with his new bride, Janet Duncan Knox, on the ship Omega on the 24th of May 1852 arriving in South Australia on the 24th of August 1852

Their first child Jane was born in Adelaide in 1853 and shortly afterwards they moved to Yankalilla where Samuel was a store keeper.
In 1857 he moved to McLaren Vale and was Miller there for a short time.
In 1860 he became the miller at The Tea Tree Gully flour mill.
In 1868 he moved to Adelaide and was engaged as a miller with Giles & Smith flour mill on West Terence until 1877.
During their stay in Adelaide they lived in Morney Street and Grattan Street.

In 1881 they moved from Adelaide to Red Hill and worked as a miller at the flour mill there. After the flour mill at Red Hill closed in 1881 he inherited the property of his uncle Anthony, as well as the post office and eating house at Elatina, which was the stopping place for the coach run from Hawker to Blinman.

Samuel spent the last few years of his life in this area as a sheep farmer and died in 1887 and is buried in the Blinman Cemetery. Janet his wife stayed with her family in this vicinity for sometime then move to Broken Hill with her son Alexander Duncan Inglis. She died at Broken Hill in March 1905 and is buried there

He was always known to the family as 'Miller Sam' as he followed the occupation of miller in South Australia that he had begun in Scotland
